Hello,
My name is Ronnie Goldfarb, a fine-art photographer based in the UK, working primarily with alternative photographic processes to explore themes of memory, identity, and perception.
I am drawn to alternative photographic processes because they carry a tactile presence that digital images can’t replicate. Hand-printing my work preserves the subtle imperfections and human touches—small disturbances that disrupt the viewer’s expectations and invite an emotional connection.
These methods ground me in the physical, historical, and alchemical dimensions of photography. A photograph is never a perfect replica but rather a mutable record—its accuracy tethered to our memory, ready to be reshaped by time and interpretation. As Talbot says, “ It is a little bit of magic realised… natural magic”. Each print, like a spell, materialises through chemistry, physics, and human error; each is a small marvel born from a process we only partially understand.
Though I naturally strive for perfection, I embrace the unpredictable results that alternative processes yield. The imperfections challenge my instinct and remind me that life—and art—can never be seamless. In the studio, I see myself as both artist and alchemist, mixing light and chemistry, embracing the unexpected revelations that arise in each print.
